The China Card: Here's where it gets deliciously ironic. Trump, who loves screaming about "CHI-NA" (complete with his trademark pronunciation), might accidentally push Mexico closer to Beijing.
Isnβt tariffs one reason why Rusia and China got closer?
And Marco Rubioβs pick for US ambassador has experience overthrowing governments
We are in Mexico now and there is no word ( or i had not heard) that scheinbaum is going to absorb deportees from elsewhere. I hope she doesnβtβ it was not a popular program under AMLO and creates a zenopjobia recognizable to US citizens. I know that sounds heartless but mexicos soverignty is at stake, and it really doesnt have the resources needed, particularly as it is expanding its social programs for its own ( very in need) people. .
Thanks i just saw that she basically said DONβT send them to us but if you do, we will do the right thing. She also said that he is in favor of βlegal immigration β and the dreamers, because he said so. I think sheβs giving him way too much credit by thinking that anything he says is actually true. I personally like the comparison of Trump to Caligulaβ the world really HAS been here before!
Thank you for your post. I do not believe most ReThuglicans and "Magatistas" have a clue about the ramifications of their racist and xenophobic fantasies. Indeed you articulated that thought conclusively when you described "a plan so spectacularly misguided that it could only have been conceived in the fever swamps of white nationalist paranoia."
It also seems quite clear that neither Xiomara Castro nor Claudia Sheinbaum has any fear of Trump. Both, in fact, are poised to strike back. This, in turn, leads to three overwhelming questions: (1) How can Trump & Co. be so stupid as to believe they can deport 13 million (plus or minus) people without affecting the U.S. economy? (2) how can they imagine that there will be no retaliatory tariffs if Trump does, indeed, do what he has promised to do? (3) If neighboring states suddenly feel threatened by the US or at least perceive hostility, why won't they turn to other powerful nations (e.g., China) in response?
I'm afraid it's "going to be one hell of a ride" indeed!
