Children Bear the Brunt: Gaza's Child Amputees Without End
Over 700 Palestinian Children Forced to Undergo Amputations Without Anesthesia
5 Key Points
Doctors estimate over 700 children in Gaza have had limbs amputated due to injuries from the ongoing war.
Most amputation surgeries are conducted without any anesthesia due to severe medical shortages.
Many child amputations could have been avoided if Gaza had access to basic medical supplies and facilities.
57 medical staff have been killed and 85 injured, including paramedics targeted while responding.
5. Without a ceasefire, the loss of limbs means permanent disability and trauma for Gaza's children.
The Gist
There is a very big war happening right now between Israel and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Gaza is a very small area with over 2 million people living there, including lots of children. The war has been going on for 11 weeks. Many, many people have been hurt or killed, especially kids.
Doctors in Gaza say over 700 children have lost arms or legs because of the war. The hospitals barely have any medicine or supplies, so when the kids have their arms or legs cut off, the doctors can't give them any pain medicine.
Lots of doctors and nurses are also getting killed when they try to help or rescue people. The United Nations is asking the countries involved to agree to stop fighting so help and supplies can get to the hurt and sick people. If not, a whole generation of kids in Gaza may be disabled for life because they lost their arms and legs in the war.
